Professor Alba Silipo wins the Carbohydrate Research Award for Creativity in Carbohydrate Chemistry 2019

The Editorial Board and Publisher of the journal Carbohydrate Researchare delighted to present Professor Alba Silipo (Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II) as the 2019 winner of the “Carbohydrate Research Award for Creativity in Carbohydrate Chemistry”. Given every two years, the Award was established in 2001 by the Editors and Publisher of Carbohydrate Researchand now consists of a cheque and a certificate. The Award is presented to a carbohydrate scientist, no older than 15 years past the PhD, who has made significant original contributions to the field, in its broadest sense.

Professor Alba Silipo is an Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Naples “Federico II”, Italy. She obtained her PhD at the same university in 2004. She receives this award in recognition of her work on the structural elucidation of bacterial polysaccharides and glycoconjugates. In particular, Alba Silipo has contributed tremendously to enhance the understanding of the function of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS), the main component of the external layer of the membrane of many gram-negative bacteria, by determining its structure and relating this information to the biology of the organism.

Congratulations to Alba Silipo!
